Stunning Nature Tours

Switzerland is full of wondrous and impressive landscapes that have evolved over millions of years. Subject to wind, weather and the laws of nature, bizarre rock formations, perfectly round lakes and deep gorges have emerged. Because of that, it is a perfect destination for nature lovers.

Matterhorn

At 4,478 metres, the majestic Matterhorn – certainly the most famous mountain in Europe – looms over the breathtaking Alpine panorama. Its symmetric pyramid shape, the rocky tooth reaching the sky and the light reflections of the nearby Stellisee make the Matterhorn’s landscape a unique natural spectacle in Zermatt. One of my best experiences was to take the funicular to Gornergrat (3,089 m), which is one of those places that everyone should visit at least once in a lifetime. The mountain panorama and the glorious view of the Matterhorn are unforgettable. I stayed overnight at Hotel Mont Cervin Palace.

Jungfrau

Jungfraujoch is a saddle connecting two major peaks of the Bernese Alps: the Jungfrau and the Mönch. It lies at an elevation of 3,463 meters (11,362 ft) above sea level and is one of the most famous sights of Switzerland. Last time I took a ride on the Jungfrau Railway through the north face of the Eiger to Europe’s highest railway station on the Jungfraujoch. This year, they opened the brand new Eiger Express cabin from Grindelwald, which I want to try out soon. This time I wanted to stay in the valley and close to the lakes Brienz and Thun. Therefore, I chose the traditional Hotel Jungfrau, which offers a stunning sundowner view into the mountains.

Rhine Falls

The Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen is an amazing spectacle. Huge volumes of water fall over the rocks across a width of 450 ft. I first took the lift up to the viewing platform and later then a boat, which brought me pretty close to the spray. Castle Laufen is also nearby. It’s the ideal place to have a lunch. On my way back to Zurich, I stopped at the medieval town Stein at Rhein.
